THE DARBY WARREN PROJECT: BIOGRAPHIES

The Darby Warren Project loves to perform, whether it's in concert on the big stage for music festivals and events throughout the Arklatex, or playing at night clubs, private party performances, or wherever there are people who love the sound of rockabilly from days gone by.

Darby Warren formed this band in 2010. His desire was to develop a unique and original sound stemming from rockabilly, country and blues. Their sound is a mix of 50's rockabilly with a little 40's blues and a twist of the 60's. The kind of music that makes you want to tap your foot and get up and dance. all original songs & a few old classics.

Darby Warren

  Darby Warren
Darby is a songwriter, plays rhythm guitar, stand up bass, electric bass, harmonica, and sings lead vocals. Darby has been writing music his entire life. In 2010 he decided to share his music with the masses by forming The Darby Warren Project.

Darby states, "I never want to be just another cover band. My music does not fall into the categories of mainstream rock, country or pop, but it is certainly original. The sounds from yester-year's rock and country were much more raw and real and appealed to millions, that's true then as well as now. I love the rockabilly sounds of the past that include the stand up bass! It's such a unique sound and a beautiful instrument that you just don't see much of anymore. Add to this the guitar styles and feel of the more traditional early sounds of rock and country plus a little bluegrass and southern gospel... that's us... today in 2013!"

David McElhany

  David McElhany
David McElhany plays acoustic guitar and primarily sings harmony with an occasional lead part. Prior to joining Darby on the road to forming the Darby Warren Project, he sang professionally in local clubs and performed at area county fairs, festivals, and opries.

Country music, with an emphasis on what would now be considered “classic country”, made up the majority of David’s typical repertoire; however he did also perform a variety of contemporary, pop, and love songs. He also possesses a unique ability to mimic certain singers and has performed in shows as Conway Twitty, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Dunn, and Elvis.

While David always enjoys (and usually is) singing, he has stated that being a part of the Darby Warren Project has not only been his favorite musical experience, but it has helped him to grow as a musician. “It has been fascinating to observe the sometimes spontaneous creativity that just seems to come out of Darby”, McElhany said. He further added “in addition to the lively melodies and beats, I think the lyrics are clever, timely, subtle, and easy for people to relate to."

Dave Stopani

  Dave Stopani
Dave Stopani is the newest member to the band. David plays lead guitar, electric bass, stand up bass and sing vocals. His music career began when he was a child when he taught himself to play on his mom's old folk guitar learning chords from a chart. He played in his high school marching band as well as joined the men's vocal group at Garland High School and because of his love for music, he has continued playing in jazz bands and rock bands and also performed in a hip-hop duo from 2003-2006.

"Dave gives our music a fuller and more complete sound and he is extremely talented and we are really glad he has joined our group", says Darby Warren. "The band is very excited about Dave joining their group."
